Will Cost You Big Time, Here Is How

The "given a free sample" patients, a recent study shows, those who got
free samples spent $244 for the prescriptions over the following six
months and those who got no free samples spent only $178. (available
now at Generic Discount Programs, Ten dollars for 90 Days Worth, $20 for the sixth months). see article ....
So in the Generic here you get six months for $20., compared to if stuck
with the newer drug tied to the sample would be $224.00 difference.
This is explained because the doctor and patient usually end up
continuing the more expensive drugs given as free samples instead of
using older often more effective lower cost drugs. The doctor writing
you an on going prescription for the "free" sample drug.
The free prescriptions DO NOT need to trap you into that particular
drug.
You may be better off to ask for the generic equivalent
effectiveness prescription right off. and then ask for the free samples
of the other drug with your generic prescription in hand. Then when the
free samples run out, if still need prescription help, fill your generic
low cost at your discount program. Now you will be able to compare
effectiveness of the free sample, "new drug" or the Generic.
The Generic versions of most are available at Walmart and Target etc
participating in the discount drug program or retail war. go here
There Are No Free Samples Of Generics At Your Doctors
Office
The drug companies give your doctor free samples of
their new still patented HIGH PRICED drugs because if you get
started on this drug you will likely continue it, rather then go to a
generic etc. when you run out of the free sample.
If the drug you were being prescribed (ask your doctor) is not on the
list for generic pricing ask or re-contact your physician to obtain an
alternative prescription or to discuss possible over-the-counter
solutions.
They will usually clarify and fix this over the phone if
necessary for you to be able to afford medication that he can switch you
to a generic drug that will work as well.
Take the time to discuss alternatives with your doctor,
- Is
it really necessary or can you take some other steps or OTC drugs to
take care of the problem.
- Is there a generic drug he can prescribe
that will do the job?
- If the pill comes in two sizes always ask for
the largest size be prescribed. (get and use a pill splitter or have
pharmacist split them) since the price is often the same for the same
number of pills, large or small.
Splitting the larger pill will give you twice the length of time before
needing a refill.
Editors Note: Pill splitting works for Viagra (using one
half is usually adequate) for most people and this makes the cost half
as much.
